The DS Smith Group has announced today that completion of its €1.6 billion deal to acquire SCA Packaging's recycling operations is expected to take place on 30 June 2012.

DS Smith Group's SCA Acquisition Approved

The DS Smith Group (‘the Group’) is pleased to confirm that the European Commission competition authority has today approved its acquisition of SCA Packaging’s recycling operations.

The €1.6 billion deal was first announced in January 2012 and today’s decision will allow the Group to proceed as planned.

This January, it has been announced that Peter Johnson, Chairman of DS Smith Plc, has retired. The Board had been planning his retirement in 2012 for some time. Peter joined the Board in 1999 as a non-Executive Director, taking the helm as Chairman in 2007.
