Key Historical Dates

1985 - The current UK-owned St Regis Paper Co. Ltd was formed in 1985 following a management buy-out from St Regis International. At this time, St Regis comprised Wansbrough, Taplow, Sudbrook,  Silverton and Higher Kings Mill.

June 1986 - St Regis became part of DS Smith Plc.

April 1987 - Acquisition of Severnside Waste Paper Co Ltd and merger with R&S Waste.

July 1987 - Acquisition of AA Griggs & Co Ltd.

August 1987 - Acquisition of Hollins Mill from Reedpack.

Feb 1988 - Acquisition of Kemsley Mill from UK Paper (at the time the site was split in two).

May 1990 - Western Board Mills transferred into the paper division.

June 1991 - Acquisition of Retford Mill from SCA.

1993 - Major rebuild of K3, converting to a triple wire machine and also K4 machine rebuild.

April 1999 - Retford Mill sold.

August 1999 - Closure of Silverton Mill.

February 2003 - Western Board sold.

April 2005 - Severnside acquired five recycling sites from BPB.

March 2005 - Closure of Sudbrook Mill following massive energy price hikes.

October 2006 - Closure of Taplow Mill following continued increase in the cost of energy.

February 2008 - Acquired the whole of the Kemsley site from M-real and rebuilt K6.

May 2008 - St Regis head office moved to Beech House in Maidenhead.

January 2009 - K6 machine rebuild complete and the launch of the UK’s first dedicated lightweight machine.

April 2009 - Closure of K1 machine.

June 2011 - Alignment of group: St Regis became DS Smith Paper and Severnside became DS Smith Recycling.

September 2011 - Sale of Higher Kings Mill to Asia File Corporation Berhad.
